We collect only the information we need to schedule and complete your free book donation pickup, and we never sell it.
This policy explains what The Whistle-Stop Bookshop (“we,” “us”) collects through whistlestopbookshop.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Whistle-Stop Bookshop is a family-owned bookseller based in Henderson, Nevada, offering free book donation pickup across Southern Nevada.
Information we collect
Most of what we collect, you give us directly when you book a pickup or contact us.
- Pickup booking form: your name, email address, phone number, pickup address and zip code, where to find your donation, the types and approximate number of items, number of boxes or bags, any special instructions or notes, and your text-message preference.
- Photos you upload: optional photos of your donation, so we can plan for the pickup.
- Appointment details: the pickup date you choose and the status of your appointment (confirmed, rescheduled, canceled or completed).
- Contact form, email, calls and texts: your name, contact details and anything you write or tell us.
- Automatic information: like most websites, our server records basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. Our cookie banner stores your cookie choice in your browser (see Cookies below).
We do not ask for payment information, Social Security numbers or other sensitive personal information.
How we use your information
We use your information only to run our donation pickup service and respond to you.
- Check whether we serve your area and schedule your pickup.
- Send booking confirmations, reminders, changes and a thank-you after your pickup.
- Text you about your pickup, but only if you check the box asking us to.
- Plan our driving route and find your donation on pickup day.
- Answer your questions and requests.
- Keep our website working and secure.
After a pickup, we may email you once to ask for a review. We do not add you to a mailing list or send marketing emails.
How we share your information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the services we need to run the business, and only as much as they need.
- Website hosting: our booking and contact forms store your information on our own website, which runs on a web hosting provider’s servers.
- Email and phone: messages to and from you pass through our email provider and our phone and texting provider.
- Maps: we enter your pickup address into a mapping app to get directions on pickup day.
- Legal reasons: we may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.
If you live outside our pickup area, we will not pass your details to another donation partner without asking you first.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to make our website and booking form work, plus one that remembers your cookie choice. We do not use advertising cookies.
You can change your choice anytime with our cookie banner, or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them may stop the booking form from working properly.
Do Not Track: we do not track visitors across other websites, and no third parties collect information about your browsing over time through our site. Because there is no tracking to stop, our site does not respond differently to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
How long we keep it
Your booking form details and any photos you upload are deleted automatically 30 days after you submit them.
We keep a basic record of your appointment (name, contact details, date and status) for as long as we need it to run our pickup schedule and keep normal business records. Emails and messages stay in our inbox until we delete them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner (see below).
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email pickup@whistlestopbookshop.com or call 702-382-5557, and we will respond within 30 days.
- Texts: optional. Leave the text box unchecked when you book, or reply to any of our texts asking us to stop.
- Your appointment: use the link in your confirmation email to reschedule or cancel.
- Nevada residents: we do not sell personal information. You may still send us a request not to sell it, and we will honor it.
Children
Our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Our website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection, and photos you upload are stored in a private folder that only we can view. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Links to other websites
Our site links to other sites, such as the Give My Books Network, Facebook, Instagram, eBay and Etsy. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
