About

our story

Craig and Sue Sheldon, owners of The Whistle-Stop Bookshop

We’re Craig and Sue Sheldon. Our family has been buying and selling books for nearly 20 years, and for five of those years we ran a used bookstore in the quaint town of Genesee Depot, Wisconsin. It was truly a family affair — our sons were part of it from the start, our daughter helped with events, and Craig was there for all of it — from putting up the first bookcase to taking down the last.

In December 2025, with our oldest grandson in Wisconsin heading off to college, we moved to Southern Nevada to be closer to our daughter’s family and our three young grandsons. Here, the Whistle-Stop Bookshop is beginning another adventure with free book pickups.

why free pickups?

Hand-painted boards of classic books that once hung outside our bookshop.

Hand-painted by our sister-in-law for the shop’s front windows.

Years in the book business showed us how many good books never reach a new reader. Most people don’t know what to do with them, they feel guilty throwing them away, and loading and hauling boxes somewhere is a lot of work. So we come to you. You set the boxes out, and we take it from there, making sure your books have a chance to be enjoyed again.

a little community spirit

Polaroid photos from our Waldo community event: Craig and Sue, Waldo cookies, and our very own Waldo!

Some of our favorite days at the shop were community events, especially Find Waldo Local. Every July, kids (and plenty of grown-ups!) carried our homemade stamp cards to businesses all around Genesee Depot, hunting for Waldo, while our Waldo flag flew outside the shop. The month ended with a party: prizes donated by local businesses, a real-life Waldo, and plenty of Waldo chocolate chip cookies. We’d love to bring that same spirit to Southern Nevada, one pickup at a time.

Thanks for stopping by. We’re glad to be your neighbors.
